A few weeks ago Autodesk evangelist and Cadalyst contributor, Lynn Allen, joined our partners DLT Solutions and CADD Microsystems for a government seminar in Washington, D.C.
In addition to presenting her AutoCAD tips and tricks, Lynn shared her insights on future design trends. We caught up with her afterwards for a quick chat and asked Lynn: “What are the top Autodesk design trends we can expect to see in the near future?” Below is her response:
“There are many different design trends that are up and coming. The ones that I think are the most compelling are the ones that have to do with connectivity, for example the Internet of Things. I think that’s starting to come forward and be predominant in our designs especially as we want to be more and more connected. I also think that additive manufacturing or 3D printing is a field that is still trying to figure out its direction and what that means to us in the design industry. But we are seeing 3D printing in many aspects of AEC. People think of it as more of a manufacturing technology, but we’ve seen so much of it in the AEC industry as well.
Simulation…you can simulate an earthquake, you can simulate airflow, you can do fluid dynamics, you can simulate energy analysis. There’s so much you can do as far as simulation is concerned that allows you to take all this data into consideration and ultimately come up with a better design.
I’m going to say cloud technology too, because that’s kind of my thing. Being able to access all those servers and having the computing power to do things that you could never do before, like simulation for example.”
