7 Video Tutorials Help You Put Civil 3D’s New Features to Work

Did you make the upgrade to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016? If you did, you’ll know that there are a whole load of new features including an updated interface, support for attaching coordination models to a drawing, point cloud tools, an InfraWorks 360 data exchange, IFC file import and export, data shortcut management tools, and more. It’s a lot to take in.

To help you get more from your new investment in Civil 3D 2016, here are a selection of quick videos that showcase how you can put what’s new to work in your next civil engineering project.

Using Exclusionary Catchments

If a catchment is exclusionary its boundary and flow path can be modified either by existing catchments as it is being created or by new catchments as they are being created. Learn how to do this in Civil 3D 2016 in the three-minute video below.

Using the Loop Geometry Tool in the Subassembly Composer

Another new feature, this lets you build custom subassemblies more easily. Check it out below.

Import and Export AutoCAD Solids to IFC Files

The ability to import and export Industry Foundation Class (IFC) files has been added to Civil 3D 2016. This allows a user to Import and Export AutoCAD solids to IFC files for use in other applications. Learn more below.

Replacing Drawing Objects with Data Shortcuts

You now have the option to use the manage data shortcuts command to repair broken data shortcuts and to replace drawing objects with data shortcuts. This lets you compare the objects and data shortcuts that are in the current drawing to the shortcuts that are available in the current project. You can select a drawing object or a broken data shortcut and then link it to a valid shortcut.

Surface Creation from Point Cloud Data

The “create surface from point cloud data” has been integrated and is now available in the user interface. You can use this feature to create a surface from one or several point clouds, selecting only the areas you want to include and filtering out non-ground points so that they’re not included in the resulting surface.

Data Exchange Between Civil 3D and InfraWorks 360

Watch this video and learn how to bring InfraWorks 360 data into AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Coordination Models

You can now attach coordination models to a drawing. Learn more below.
