Oracle Federal Forum Recap: Empowering Modern and Secure Government
Late last year, Oracle held their 7th Annual Federal Forum in Washington, D.C. Partners, customers, and Oracle executives were present to learn about Oracle’s public sector IT theme, “Empowering Modern and Secure Government.” Mark Hurd, Oracle President and Mark Johnson, Senior Vice President of Oracle Public Sector, delivered keynote speeches emphasizing the importance of modernizing the government’s IT infrastructure and Oracle’s innovations particularly in cloud computing. Attendees participated in various sessions to see examples of how the government is using Oracle’s new technologies to modernize their IT environment. Guests also had a chance to meet one on one with Oracle experts and gain insight into Oracle’s products, such as the ROI opportunities with Engineered Systems.
One of the track sessions that I attended, called, “Driving Application Efficiency, Scale, and Savings with Engineered Systems,” was presented by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission was able to save $2 million over five years by leveraging Exadata and Exalytics to reduce costs and complexity by optimizing their existing Oracle technologies and made more simplified transactions for customers.
Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory discussed how SPARC SuperCluster ½ rack increased performance and made it easier to manage and maintain the Oracle database. The event gave me great insight into the technology needs of the government from small departments to large agencies and how they use Oracle solutions to deliver the best possible services to the citizens.
