How to Ensure Your Cloud is Not Just a “Legacy System of the Future”
Cloud is a big investment, and the pace of adoption over the past few years has reflected this with agencies albeit tip toeing towards cloud. In the past 12 months, however, the cloud is on the move, with IDC Government Insights predicting that a 25% growth in the sourcing of government clouds will drive cross-governmental initiatives by 2018.
But what does all this mean for your agency? What cloud approach is going to be best for your needs? How do you modernize without investing in a cloud strategy that will be obsolete in a few years?
Some vendors will want to lock you in now, so they can make more money later. Others may want to sell you another silo, a “cloud-in-a-box”. But clouds aren’t products, they don’t come in a box, and clouds shouldn’t lock you in.
So how can your agency future proof itself with the cloud?
How about a different approach? One that involves not buying into something unless you know exactly how you will leave it (i.e. what your exit strategy is).
