Leveraging AWS for NetBackup 7.7.1
To enable our backups inside AWS, we have been leveraging Architect NBU within AWS.
Our environment above consist of a NetBackup Master/Media server.
EC2 instances of clients. Backing up to S3, all within one enclave.
Veritas NetBackup and Amazon Web Services combined has given us the capability to grow a backup infrastructure immensely with reliability and efficiently across multiple virtual environments. To, from and within the cloud.
An Amazon EC2 (Elastic Cloud Computing) instance will be use to supporting the NBU Master and Media server in AWS. The storage will be Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service). Veritas NetBackup Cloud Storage enable NBU to backups and restore directly to and from S3 bucket.
In the architect above utilizing multiple VPC gives you the freedom to add multiple environments satisfying different requirements. Sharing one Master Server in the Common VPC simplify administrations and cost savings. Each VPC enclave uses VPC Peering for connection to the Common VPC. Segmenting each Environment allows customization in this case billing and charge backs.
Expanding the capability supporting larger environments requiring multiple VPC. A Media server is in the same VPC to handle all the backup traffic not having to traverse data back to the common VPC. With smaller environments, a media server in the common VPC can be use.
