Together in Tragedy – DLT Solutions Hosts Fundraiser for Paralyzed Employee

One evening in 2005, a DLT employee was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident. When co-workers came to work the next morning and learned the extent of his injuries, the outpouring of support was immediate. “His hospital room was like a revolving door of DLT employees. I don’t think there was a time when one of us wasn’t there,” said Government Manager, Sarah Lash, who still vividly remembers getting the news of what had happened. The employee involved in the accident, whose name is being withheld for privacy, sustained multiple injuries including the amputation of one of his legs, partial paralysis in one arm and complete paralysis from the waist down. The DLT family stuck together to help out this family member in need. Together with The DLT Social Committee, an internal group that organizes company gatherings, employees organized a fundraiser to help the injured employee with medical expenses. Held at The State Theater outside of Washington D.C., the fundraiser was open to all employees, partners and their families and friends, including the employee’s family. It was an all hands on deck event. The fundraiser featured a raffle and silent auction offering items such as trips, free vacation days for employees, TVs, and more as well as a feature film, food and beverages for the cost of admission. By the end of the night, we were able to raise more than $20,000 and the money was put towards the purchase of a new, specialized $18,000 paraplegic wheelchair, a wheelchair ramp and other expenses.
