In times of uncertainty, government entities, like the U.S. Air Force, are challenged to act and innovate quickly. But when the COVID-19 crisis hit, it pushed the team to new heights. As hundreds of thousands of employees transitioned to working remotely, the Air Force quickly took measures to ensure operational continuity. The number of remote workers on Defense Department networks had grown exponentially, and the demand was increasing daily. As such, implementing a secure, scalable collaboration platform became an urgent need to support programs and individuals throughout the Department of Defense (DoD).
This case study addresses these key challenges:
- Deploying pure upstream Kubernetes to different DoD networks
- Scale their platform to support missions at different impact levels
- Seeking a partner to help contribute to the open source community
