Outsourcing Cybersecurity? Feds get behind the idea.
Are agencies embracing the concept of “Security-as-a-Service”? A recent GCN article thinks so. They point to a recent $6 billion blanket purchase agreement to 17 companies for cybersecurity services and tools, and conclude that the government might look to outsourcing as a solution to their security problems.
Gartner: Amazon Still Public Cloud Leader by a Long Shot
According to an InfoWorld article on Gartner’s recent cloud report, “no other company comes close to Amazon (Web Services - AWS).” Cited for its innovation and agility, Gartner estimates that AWS’ cloud operation is five times larger than 12 of its competitors combined. Read the article here.
Government CIOs Prioritize Business Intelligence, Analytics, IT Management as Role Changes
Another recent report from Gartner listed the top principal business priorities for government CIOS. Those priorities are delivering operation results, improving IT applications and infrastructure, and reducing enterprise costs. Their main finding, however, was that for government CIOs, more than just budget reducing, operating results were just as important. CMS Wire has the full story.

DLT's Josh Tehan has experienced every parent’s worst nightmare – being told your child has cancer. His son, Ethan, who is now cancer-free, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at the age of 3 and underwent three years of chemotherapy.

It's finally here!
Amazon Web Services (AWS) just announced that the Elastic File System (or "EFS") is a live production service. The service is provisioned out of three regions currently: US-EAST-1, US-WEST-2, and EU-WEST-1.
EFS was originally announced over a year ago at AWS re:Invent in 2015. By AWS standards, the service has been in "preview" for quite some time. I'll admit to you, I was getting a little skeptical that it was going to make it out of preview, but hey, it's good to be wrong sometimes.

Terrestrial laser scanning or LiDAR is just one example of reality capture (or recap) at work. But recap hasn’t always been easy. Scanning techniques are often expensive and the task of incorporating and manipulating large data sets (point clouds) during the design process is tricky.
